Simon Richards, a dedicated Islander with over 30 years of community involvement, has announced his candidacy for the upcoming Central Rural Ward by-election. An experienced public sector professional, Simon is committed to being a strong voice for local residents.

“I’ve lived and worked here, and I’m passionate about preserving our rural villages while addressing the key issues affecting our community,” he explained. “With my background in public sector finance and charity work, I have the experience to get things done and ensure our voices are heard.”

Simon's top priorities include improving education, enhancing road safety, preventing flooding, and ensuring sustainable housing development. With 15 years' experience as a school governor and education governance specialist, he is dedicated to protecting the rights of children to a better quality of education and improving resources for children, particularly those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

“Every child deserves the best start in life. I’ll work tirelessly to protect our children's rights to a top-quality education. Education is the foundation of a brighter future, and we must invest in it to ensure every child has the chance to succeed,” he continued.

In addition to education, Simon is focused on issues like road safety, better infrastructure, and safeguarding the Island’s rural character.

“Too many lives are at risk from speeding and phone use on rural roads. I’ll push for better enforcement, traffic-calming measures, and investment in our infrastructure. We need safer roads to protect our families and ensure a safer environment for everyone,” he stated.

Simon has earned the endorsement of Conservative Group Leader, Councillor Ed Blake, who praised his approach to community service and problem-solving:

“Simon has been a strong advocate for the community, consistently pushing for solutions that benefit everyone. He will represent our interests with integrity and dedication. His proactive approach will make a real difference for Central Rural.

“We need a councillor who listens and stands up for the residents of Central Rural. With your support, we can ensure a strong, dedicated voice in the Council Chamber. Together, we can make real progress and continue to build a better future for our community.”

The Central Rural Ward by-election will take place on Thursday, 1st May. Simon Richards is asking for the support of local residents to help continue delivering positive change for the community.
