The Isle of Wight Council is a unitary county authority which is responsible all the main functions of local government on the Isle of Wight, including the provision of the Island's fire service.

Between 2005 and 2013 the Council was led by the Island Conservatives, who won a majority of seats in both 2005 and 2009. They currently hold 15 out of the 40 seats on the local authority.

The Leader of the Conservative Group on the Isle of Wight Council is Cllr Dave Stewart, who is the member for Chale, Niton & Whitwell.
